KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 (Bernama) — The southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu will set aside six hectares (150 acres) in Sriprerumbudur for Naza Automotive Manufacturing Sdn Bhd to set up its RM950 million assembly plant to produce Naza and Kia vehicles, Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said.

He said a memorandum of understanding between Naza Kia and the Tamil Nadu state government was expected to be signed on Sept 11.

Speaking to reporters after launching Rangkaian Segar Sdn Bhd’s Touch ‘n Go hub here, Samy Vellu said the Tamil Nadu government was happy a Malaysian company wanted to set up an assembly plant in the state capital, Chennai.

He said the decision was made during discussions between Naza Group of Companies chairman Tan Sri S.M. Nasimuddin Amin and Tamil Nadu government officials in Chennai last week.

He said a request had been made for a reduction in the taxes and electricity tariff for the assembly plant but the Tamil Nadu government had yet to decide.

“Naza’s assembly plant will join other large motor vehicle companies such as Ford, Hyundai and Mitsubishi which have already set up their manufacturing plants in Chennai.

“Naza will export its vehicles from Chennai to neighbouring countries like Nepal and Sri Lanka. They will also be sold within India.”

Samy Vellu said Naza also planned to set up agency offices in India to distribute the Naza and Kia vehicles.

He said a meeting had been arranged with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for discussions on the Colachal Port and the elevated highway in Chennai being bid by Malaysian companies.

“I want more Bumiputera companies to participate in projects outside Malaysia. I will bring them to India to bid for large projects,” he added.

Defination of Automotive from Wikipedia

An automobile or motor car is a wheeled motor vehicle for transporting passengers; which also carries its own engine or motor. Most definitions of the term specify that automobiles are designed to run primarily on roads, to have seating for one to eight people, to typically have four wheels, and to be constructed principally for the transport of people rather than goods.[1] However, the term is far from precise because there are many types of vehicles that do similar tasks. Automobile comes via the French language, from the Greek language by combining auto [self] with mobilis [moving]; meaning a vehicle that moves itself, rather than being pulled or pushed by a separate animal or another vehicle. The alternative name car is believed to originate from the Latin word carrus or carrum [wheeled vehicle], or the Middle English word carre [cart] (from Old North French), and karros; a Gallic wagon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile
