KUALA LUMPUR: Naza Group chairman and chief executive officer Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin SM Amin received one of South Korea’s highest awards for his contribution to the automotive industry.

He received the Presidential Award industrial service medal from South Korean ambassador to Malaysia Son Sang-Ha, on behalf of the South Korean President, at a ceremony at the embassy here yesterday.
Son said the partnership between Naza and South Korean carmaker Kia Motors Inc, which began in 1996, was an excellent indicator of the growth in bilateral trade between the two countries.

“Bilateral trade has surpassed US$10bil (RM35.5bil), while South Korea’s investments in Malaysia has reached US$26bil (RM92.3bil),” he said.
“Nasimuddin’s leadership and his entrepreneurship are a catalyst for the growing partnership between South Korea and Malaysia in the automotive sector and also beyond.”

Nasimuddin said he was proud to be working with South Korea’s leading automotive manufacturer, and that the diligent and skilled South Korean workforce had inspired him during his visits to the country.

“As the first Malaysian to receive this award, I consider it also a gift for Malaysia,” he said in his acceptance speech.

Nasimuddin said Naza Group was happy to form a partnership with one of the world’s leading and well-recognised automotive brands, and that Malaysia and South Korea had a great opportunity to enhance partnerships in other areas.

Speaking to reporters later, Nasimuddin said he had not received any news on Naza Group’s proposal to become a strategic partner of Proton Holdings Bhd.

“We are going to make a presentation to the Committee on Automotive Policy chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister on Jan 4. We will see the development of our proposal from there,” he said.

Defination of Automotive from Wikipedia

An automobile or motor car is a wheeled motor vehicle for transporting passengers; which also carries its own engine or motor. Most definitions of the term specify that automobiles are designed to run primarily on roads, to have seating for one to eight people, to typically have four wheels, and to be constructed principally for the transport of people rather than goods.[1] However, the term is far from precise because there are many types of vehicles that do similar tasks. Automobile comes via the French language, from the Greek language by combining auto [self] with mobilis [moving]; meaning a vehicle that moves itself, rather than being pulled or pushed by a separate animal or another vehicle. The alternative name car is believed to originate from the Latin word carrus or carrum [wheeled vehicle], or the Middle English word carre [cart] (from Old North French), and karros; a Gallic wagon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile
