KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 (Bernama) — The NAZA Group of Companies, Monday introduced two vehicles powered by natural gas, Citra and Ria, targeted at taxi operators as well as commercial users.

Manager of Naza Automotive Manufacturing Sdn Bhd, Mohamad Shalan Hassan, said the two cars, although slightly more expensive than existing models, offered 60 percent fuel cost savings in the long run.

At a media preview of the cars here Monday, he said the models, the first locally made NGVs, would only be available on the road once customers demand is determined.

“The preview was to gauge acceptance and interest from commercial and fleet buyers. Therefore, price, final specifications and sales targets are not available currently,” he said.

The cars’ system offer the use of both gas and fuel.

“Its duel fuel…if you run out of gas, it will automatically switch to fuel,” he said, adding that existing customers of the two models could also convert their engine to NGV.

Mohamad Sahalan was also optimistic that the increase in fuel cost, the opening of more NGV stations as well as appealing tax incentive for such cars would enhance demand for the new Citra and Ria.

He also said that talks with Petronas has indicated that the national oil and gas giant would open about 200 NGV stations by 2008 from the current 42 stations, of which 32 stations are in Klang Valley.

“If there are more infrastructure (NGV stations), I am very sure that we can generate the demand for these cars,” he said.

Defination of Automotive from Wikipedia

An automobile or motor car is a wheeled motor vehicle for transporting passengers; which also carries its own engine or motor. Most definitions of the term specify that automobiles are designed to run primarily on roads, to have seating for one to eight people, to typically have four wheels, and to be constructed principally for the transport of people rather than goods.[1] However, the term is far from precise because there are many types of vehicles that do similar tasks. Automobile comes via the French language, from the Greek language by combining auto [self] with mobilis [moving]; meaning a vehicle that moves itself, rather than being pulled or pushed by a separate animal or another vehicle. The alternative name car is believed to originate from the Latin word carrus or carrum [wheeled vehicle], or the Middle English word carre [cart] (from Old North French), and karros; a Gallic wagon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile
