More Peugeot models will be introduced in Malaysia, with some to be assembled by Nasim for the Asian market, says Peugeot director for operations in Asia Pacific and Africa

NASIM Sdn Bhd and PSA Peugeot plan to make Malaysia a hub to help the French principal sell more Peugeot cars in Asia.

“For Peugeot owners to have confidence in the brand, it is very important for us to play a prominent role in developing the brand.

“This is why we are aiming at being a manufacturing hub for Peugeot automobiles, not only in Malaysia, but (also in) other right hand-drive markets as well in the near future,” Naza group executive chairman and chief executive officer SM Nasarudin SM Nasimudin said.

He was speaking to the press after the launch of locally-assembled Peugeot 407 at its flagship sales and service centre called Peugeot Blue Box in Glenmarie, Shah Alam, on Wednesd ay.

Francois Poirier, Peugeot director for operations in Asia Pacific and Africa, said more new Peugeot models will be introduced here, with some to be assembled by Nasim for the Asian market.

Poirier said the locally-assembled Peugeot 407 is on par with the same model manufactured in France.

The 407 is assembled at Naza’s manufacturing facility in Gurun, Kedah.

Nasarudin said Nasim has received about 200 bookings for the 407 prior to the launch. It expects to sell 150 units monthly.

The company plans to launch Peugeot 308 by the fourth quarter of this year, he added. The 207 GTI, 207cc and 308 RCZ are also to be introduced to boost the Peugeot sales.

Priced from RM125,888, the new 407 comes with the addition of VVT (variable valve timing) feature, a newly-revised automatic transmission and Xenon lights, among others.

Nasarudin said since launching the Peugeot brand in February 2008, Nasim has been progressively rationalising its parts pricing to improve its availability, besides increasing service network.

New sales and service centres should be opened soon in Penang and Johor Baru with RM3 million investment each.

Defination of Automotive from Wikipedia

An automobile or motor car is a wheeled motor vehicle for transporting passengers; which also carries its own engine or motor. Most definitions of the term specify that automobiles are designed to run primarily on roads, to have seating for one to eight people, to typically have four wheels, and to be constructed principally for the transport of people rather than goods.[1] However, the term is far from precise because there are many types of vehicles that do similar tasks. Automobile comes via the French language, from the Greek language by combining auto [self] with mobilis [moving]; meaning a vehicle that moves itself, rather than being pulled or pushed by a separate animal or another vehicle. The alternative name car is believed to originate from the Latin word carrus or carrum [wheeled vehicle], or the Middle English word carre [cart] (from Old North French), and karros; a Gallic wagon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile
